The numbers of Schengen visas in the Eastern European states dropped sharply last year as a result of economic crisis in the region.
Until 2015 more than half of all Schengen visas issued globally were given in Eastern European states. However, last year the number of Schengen visas in recession-hit Belarus, Russia and Ukraine decreased considerably. As a result, the number of visas given in Eastern European states decreased to 39% of the totally issued Schengen visas in the world.
